One day sensitization programme held at DBC Maram

In view of the urgent need to make aware of the evil effects of substance abuse which has emerged as a serious concern, adversely affecting the physical and socio-economic well-being of the country, the National Service Scheme Unit-1 of Don Bosco College Maram organised One Day Sensitization college Programme under the leadership of Sweta Parmar on today at College Auditorium under NSS Cell Manipur University sponsored by National Institute of Social defence and Ministry of Social justice and Empowerment, New Delhi.
The objectives of the prevention programme was to make aware the students about ill effects of use of different types of drugs and alcohol, related signs & symptoms, repercussion, preventive measures, government interventions and legislative provisions.
The awareness programme was witnessed by 98 students of the college.
Fr (Dr) KO Sebastian, Principal of the college welcomed the dignitaries while the speakers of the event, Dr Lolee P Mao DNO, NPPCD Senapati (chief guest) took up the first session and presented the harmful effects of drug abuse via audio-visual presentation.
He also emphasized on the social, emotional and physical dangers associated with substance abuse and more importantly on the legal responsibility and liability of users and pushers.
R Raj Kumar the HoD of Bio-Tech Department explained on the various issues faced by the youth.
He further explained on 'Preventing teenage drug abuse'.
John Britto, Programme officer of NSS Unit- 3 also took up the session on 'Legal aspects of drugs' and highlighted the role of government agencies in prevention of drug abuse.
Shyamsunder Luwang, PO of NSS unit-2 proposed a vote of thanks at the end of the programme.
