In all 19 illegal migrants from Myanmar, who were arrested by Manipur Police from Lilong area on August 30 last, have been sent to judicial custody after being produced in front of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Thoubal District for 15 days under the Foreigners Act, 1946 .
On the other hand, Thoubal Police have arrested five more illegal migrants from Serou area during a drive today.
The 19 illegal migrants, who have been sent to judicial custody, are said to be originally from Arakan region of Myanmar.
They were arrested by police from Lilong area during a drive against illegal migrants on August 30 last.
Among the 19 illegal migrants, two of them are said to be housewives with three kids.
They were produced before the court of CJM Thoubal at around 2 pm today.

Subsequently, the court directed them to be sent to judicial custody as they could not produce any valid legal documents which allow them to live in India.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Assistant Public Prosecutor, CJM Thoubal, S Maipak explained that any foreigner or Indian citizen who failed to produce any documents issued by a competent local authority or do not possess identity proof of being a immigrant or a citizen of India should be taken as illegal migrant under the Indian Citizen Act 1955 .
Out of the 19 illegal migrants who have been send to judicial custody, some of them have been living in the state for the past 10 years, Maipak disclosed, adding that while passing the order, the CJM also instructed the jail authority to provide medical assessment to the two housewives with three kids.
Meanwhile, police today conducted a similar drive to check illegal migrants in Serou Part 3 area and arrested five foreign nationals who were living there without any legal documents.
The drive was conducted under the leaderships of SDPO Sugnu, Mangi and DSP (Commando) Thoubal district, Jyotin starting from 3 am today.
Around 400 men and women were paraded at the ground of Saraswati School and conducted verification one by one.
During the verification process, nine persons, who failed to produce any supporting legal documents to prove their nationality were detained and taken to Sugnu Police Station.
However, later on, four of them were released after their family members produced proof of their identities.
Acting on the instruction of the Union Home Ministry, the state Home Department has been conducting a drive against illegal migrants in the state since August 30 last.
