Imphal, July 28, 2012:
Officials of the State Social Welfare Department who went to Ernakulum to bring back 23 children of the State returned empty handed as the Chief Welfare Committee (CWC), Ernakulum refused to hand over the children.
It is reported that 23 children were taken to Kerela with the false promise of giving school education free of cost.
Twenty-two of the victimised children hail from Ukhrul district while one belongs to Imphal East district.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Social Welfare Director K Seityabati said that even though CWC Ernakulum refused to hand over the children to the State officials, the officials were allowed to observe the conditions of the children.
Nevertheless, Social Welfare Department has written to the Government of Kerala to bring the children up to Guwahati or Kolkata.
Officials of Kerala Government would bring the children up to either Kolkata or Guwahati.
There the children would be received by State officials.
Notably, three other children belonging to Ukhrul district who were staying at CWC Ernakulum were brought back by their parents at their own expense.
The children who are currently staying in Kerala were taken there last year.
