Imphal, July 21 2021:
AICC leader and Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das, who arrived here on Wednesday morning, has started meeting MPCC leaders to discuss internal organisation matters after MLA Govindas resigns from the post of MPCC president.
An MPCC team led by MLAs K Meghachandra and MPCC vice-president ex-MLA Kh Ratankumar received the party leader, who is on a three-day visit, at Imphal international Airport on Wednesday 9 am.
Interacting with media at Airport, Charan Das said that he came here to discuss poll strategies with party leaders, and leaders of frontals and cells.
Regarding the issue of MLA Govindas, he conveyed that the party has received the resignation letter of Govindas but the party has not approved the resignation as of now.
The party will discuss the matter first before accepting his resignation.
Upon asking if the party would accept Govindas as MPCC president if he withdrew his resignation, the AICC leader said that roles and responsibilities of a party president are very crucial and the party has its own policy against members who lack organisational discipline.
He further said that the Supreme Court will declare the fate of 12 MLAs on July 26 and fate of the BJP government in the state will also be known on that day.
Congress party always stands for the public and the party will form the government if the apex court judgment requires formation of a new government in the state, he added.
From the airport, Charan Das went to Hotel Classic Grande where he met CLP leader Okram Ibobi and MLA K Meghachandra.
After the meeting, Meghachandra told the media that the resignation of MLA Govindas from the party's presidentship is a personal and opportunistic decision and it is not related with any feud or issue with the CLP leader.
Later, around 4.30 pm, Charan Das met CLP members at Congress Bhawan.
He will meet MPCC office bearers on Thursday and address a press conference at 11.30 am.
In the afternoon, he will chair a meeting with leaders of MP-CC's frontal organisations and cells.
On Friday morning, he will meet intending candidates, who are seeking party tickets for the forthcoming state assembly elections.
