New Delhi, March 19 2012:
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh informed the Parliament on Monday that the new railway minister will be sworn-in shortly, and Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi's resignation will be forwarded to the President for approval.
He, however, did not mention the name of the new railway minister.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has suggested Mukul Roy for the post, which is likely to be accepted.
Speaking on the debate on Presidential address during the ongoing budget session at Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister said, he received Mr.Trivedi's email and a formal letter of resignation on Sunday night.
He further said that broadbased national consensus is needed to push economic growth, and in the present state, "narrow political views" should be eschewed, a clear reference to the railway budget controversy.
"We need to have a consensus as difficult decisions become more difficult as we are running a coalition government," he added.
