RIMS celebrates 46th foundation day ; Joykumar moots adherence to ethics in healthcare profession

Maintaining ethics and to serve should be an important aspect for people in healthcare profession, asserted Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh while speaking at the 46th Foundation Day Celebration of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) today .
He said that attending patients in need with proper care and attention should be the driving force to mend the gap between people and those in the profession .
He said that people in healthcare profession, may be doctor, nurse or paramedical staffs should pay respect to any individual who come to seek help and treat them with dedication and love so that the real objective of such a profession could be maintained .
For a doctor bookish knowledge along with practical way of attending patients is important, the Deputy CM noted .
Mentioning the commendable efforts made by RIMS in healthcare sector not only in the State but also in the North Eastern region, Joykumar said that the institute has been emerging as one of the most beneficial healthcare institutes in the region .

RIMS is an institute with reputation that needs to be taken care of and maintained in days to come.
Many professionals who passed out from the institute held commendable positions in various organisations and serving the Nation, he acknowledged .
Admitting that the healthcare facilities in the private hospitals and institutes are costlier than Government hospitals, he said that the role of Government is to cater maximum facilities at minimum charges to the people.
Therefore, institutes like RIMS, JNIMS and other Government hospitals and institutes will be brought up to the highest level .
Expressing concern over the shortage of infrastructures and technical inputs as well as manpower in RIMS, he mentioned that State Government will approach the Centre and will try to sort out whatever shortage in the institute and also to make it a best healthcare institute in the country .
Speaking on the occasion, Rajya Sabha MP Kshtrimayum Bhabananda Singh said that RIMS has been a premier healthcare institute in the North East .
He observed that it can play a big role in developing the healthcare sector not only in the State but also in the region.
Two important sectors healthcare and education need to be developed to make India a developed Nation.
Medical fraternity should do a lot of things that can be productive in bringing a change in healthcare delivery system, he said .
He also said that trust deficit between people and men in the profession should be removed so that the goal of achieving best healthcare delivery to people can be made possible .
The MP assured that he will also urge the concerned Ministry to fulfil the need of RIMS .
On the occasion, Deputy CM Joykumar distributed gold medals, citations and certificates to the position holders of Post Graduate and MBBS professional examinations 2017 .
He also released the annual magazine of RIMS Students' Union during the function .
Director RIMS, Prof A Santa Singh, Dr E Nandini Devi also spoke on the occasion.
Faculty members of various Departments of RIMS, students and staff also participated among others in the celebration function.
