Lamka, October 08 2014:
Accusing troops of Assam Rifles under 27 Sector of raiding civilian houses and harassing innocent people, the Hmar Chiefs' Federation has called on the authority concerned to scrap AFSPA immediately to stop AR from unleashing terror on peace loving people.
The HCF in a statement said that the AR raided the houses of Lalhmathuoi, Darhminglien and Lalzuilien on Sept 30 and harassed the members and subjected them to irrelevant questions and threats.
The federation also alleged that the AR, with the same feeling of insatiable thirst for exercising power carried out operation among the innocent public of Rengkai village on October 5, harassing Lallawmkim, wife of late Lalramlien with 'impunity.' The victim and others, they alleged, were celebrating a birthday but were subjected to threat and harassment for three hours.
The chiefs' federation while condemning the AR action went on to declare that it has rejected 27 Sector AR as friends of the hill people.
It also alleged that the AR has misused AFSP Act and warned that the incident can happen to any tribal or any village.
