Imphal, February 02 2021:
The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWHRO) has asserted that the Government should not submit to the demand of various NGOs/CSOs to appeal the 2018 drug haul case to higher Court.
In a representation submitted to the Chief Minister KWHRO alleged that some civil organisations are demanding that the case be taken to a higher Court, which is nothing but an attempt to tarnish the image of the Court and if the Government submits to such 'ridiculous' demands it will send out a negative image to the public as everyone will start questioning the ruling of the Court of law.
'If we are not to believe the institutions of the Government, what/who are we to believe?", questioned the organisation.
The letter also mentioned that the organisations that are demanding the appeal have not read the full 147 paged ruling which clearly stated that Lhukhosei Zou is innocent.
The action of the CSOs and NGOs is close to mob justice and trial by media which has no place in a society governed by rule of the law, added KWHRO in the letter to the Chief Minister.
KWHRO also maintained in the letter that if the CSOs or NGOs demanding the appeal are really concerned about the well-being of the society as a whole, they should also demand justice regarding various cases related to 'war on drugs' pending at the Court including 'Criminal Contempt' cases filed by Themgthing Ngashangva (IPS) and the State of Manipur.
