Public hearing on expansion of Manipur Zoological Garden

A public hearing on expansion of Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba was organised by State Social Impact Assessment (SIA) unit, Directorate of Environment today at Iroisemba Polo ground.
Dy Director, Directorate of Environment Dr T Brajakumar, former Dy Settlement Officer of Revenue Dept Md Abdul Salam, expert members of SIA unit Manipur BB Sharma, Elangbam Bijoy and Corporator of Ward No 27, IMC Herojit Ngangom were amongst other dignitaries on the dais .
Speaking at the occasion, president of All Manipur Polo Association (AMPA) Konsam Saratchandra said that Manipur is known to the world for Polo and Pony.
However, developmental projects and the ever increasing population have shrunk grazing field for ponies which in turn has affected development of Polo .
As such, it is pertinent to leave the Polo ground at Iroisemba intact for the promotion of Polo in the State, he said.
Director of Manipur Zoological Garden, Gaithaolu said that the Zoological garden is categorised as Median Zoo as per Central Zoo Act.
Given the number of visitors it attracts and the number of wild animals and birds preserved in the zoo, there is need to expand the garden.
