Tributes paid to Mao 'martyrs'

The 6th anniversary of the 'martyrdom' of Neli Chakho and Dikho Loshuo�who were killed in police firing on May 6, 2010 at Mao Gate, was held today at Martyrs Park, Mao Gate.
The event was organised by the Mao Council under the auspices of United Naga Council and in collaboration with All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) and Mao Students' Union.
Neli Chakho and Dikho Loshuo were killed in police firing on May 6, 2010 during a rally to protest the State Govt's decision to prevent NSCN-IM general secretary Th Muivah's visit to his birth place in Ukhrul district.
Speaking at the occasion today, UNC president Gaidon Kamei said that the passing of the three 'anti-tribal' Bills by the Manipur Assembly is one glaring example of the State Chief Minister and Dy CM's anti-Nagas' stand.
The future of the Nagas is bleak as the State Govt is posing a threat to the land, culture, traditions and human rights of the Nagas, he said.
The Nagas will never remain silent to the anti-Naga stance of the Govt, Gaidon asserted.
He further said that the Nagas stand united to protect and safeguard their history, culture, tradition and land.
President of Naga Hoho, P Chuba Ozukum said he appreciated the statement of Manipur CM O Ibobi who said that not an inch of Manipur's territory would be ceded to anyone.
However, Ozukum said he wanted to know who is trying to forcibly claim or is claiming the territory of Manipur.
He added no one attempts to claim the territory of Manipur.
The Nagas will protect their land.
The Nagas inherit their land from their ancestors and preserving and protecting their land run high in the blood of the Nagas, the Naga Hoho leader said.
Ozukum further said that the fateful incident of May 6, 2010 happened due to the Manipur Govt's opposition to the Naga movement.
And it was the manifestation of the oppressive and suppressive act of the State Govt against the Nagas.
The Nagas will never allow the materialisation of unacceptable boundary between Manipur and Nagaland, Ozukum said.
Saying that the Nagas welcome the Framework Agreement signed on Aug 3, 2015, the Naga Hoho president said the Nagas aspire to live in peace with their neighbours.
Leaders of the UNC, Mao Council, NSF, NPMHR, ANSAM, NWU, Naga Hoho, NMA and MLA of Mao AC L Dikho attended the 'martyrdom' observance programme.
Besides, students from various institutions and family members of the two departed students offered tributes to the two 'martyrs' .
The gatherings also observed one minute silence to show respect to the departed souls.
