AMBSU holds public meet

The All Manipur Bengali Students' Union (AMBSU) organised a public meeting at Al- Ameen English School Sonapur, Jiribam today to discuss factors for the development of school education and implementation of different schemes related to education in Jiribam like Civil Work under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), Bengali language as medium of teaching up to primary level in schools located in Bengali inhabited areas and recruitment of Bengali language teachers for primary schools, Jiri News Network (JNN) reports.
The meeting pointed out that as per the guidelines of SSA, construction of school buildings, kitchen, fencing wall, toilets/ latrines, renovation of school building etc under civil work should be carried out by the School Management Committee (SMC) and not by any contractor, agency, group, NGO or individual.
The meeting also reviewed the possibility of implementation of provision 29 (2)(f) of RTE Act, 2009 in Jiribam under which the student's mother tongue should be the medium of teaching in the school up to primary level.
ABMSU, in the meeting, decided to submit a reminder of the memorandum which was submitted to the Chief Minister, Education Minister, Minority Commissioner and Director of Education with an ultimatum of June 5, 2016 so as to initiate implementation of provision 29(2)(f) of RTE Act, 2009 in the sub-division.
AMBSU has warned to close all Government institutions located in Bengali inhabited areas indefinitely in case the State Government fails to implement the provision 29(2)(f) of RTE Act, 2009 by June 5, JNN reports.
