Imphal, August 25 2013:
The Zeliangrong United Front (ZYF) is all set to observe the 82nd Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang Malangmei on August 29 by organising a lecture on the Zeliangrong vanguard at its 'general headquarter' Dilung.
According to ZUF information secretary A Dangmei, the event is being organised to recall the mosaic of struggle and heritage drawn from the 'Nagaraj movement' of the 1920s and to explore communal duties relating to the twilight years of the veteran fighters.
A Dangmei added that befitting homage will be paid to Haipou Jadonnang, the man who had laid down his life on the gallows of the British colonial regime at Imphal jail at 6:30 am on Saturday, 1931 .
The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) and its armed wing Zeliangrong Tigers Force (ZTF) have then urged to lit up the candle-light on the evening of August 29 by every Zeliangrong home to mark the 'important day and signify renaissance of duty and patriotism' .
The ZUF then said, "The Zeliangrong Nagas and the brethren tribes living together in a compact geographical area should now assert to find out a logical political situation in this contemporary world of the 'survival of the fittest'" .
A Dangmei stated that the Zeliangrong people along with other Nagas had fought against the British intrusion in 1832 onward and the struggle for self determination is going on till today.
"The creation of Nagaland statehood in 1963 excluded Zeliangrong region where Naga raj movement originated under Haipou Jadong Malangmei, Pamei Rani Gaidinliu and others.
Haipou Jadonang proclaimed the establishment of a Naga raj in his version 'Makam gong tu puni' (our people shall reign) and he started preparation for arm revolution since 1927 .
He collected fire arms, traditional weapons and organized man-power in the military training from all the willing participants of the entire Naga hills," the ZUF leader said.
According to A Dangmei, Jadonnang had boycotted payment of hills house tax and porter system which had angered the British authorities.
"He had sought the blessing of god 'Khanglinlung' ( western god-Vishnu or Bhuvon cave) in Cachar, Assam and had founded 'Heraka' cult.
He had made contact with Mahatma Gandhi who was leading the non-cooperation movement in India against the British without violence," A Dangmei stated.
He then said, Haipou Jadonang Malangmei was the icon of Nagas' struggle for independence and also the pioneer vanguard of his people.
"His dimensional resistance against the colonial power can be inclusive as to cover the scope of revolution i.e., Zeliangrong, Manipur, Nagaland, India and Asia," the ZUF leader further said, adding, "The Zeliangrongs in particular be urged to observe the 82nd Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang Malangmei like a genna without venturing out from their respective home/village till sunset when homes shall be illuminated with candles or any bright lights such as conventional fire lit" .
