Lamka, July 25, 2012:
The death of a 48 year old woman, whose body was found hanging on a ceiling fan sparked protest here, forcing all business establishments to call it a day prematurely, as there was a strong apprehension that the victim was murdered.
Lunneihoi alias Hoinu, 48, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her rented shop at D Phailian village at around 7 am yesterday.
Though it resembled a suicide, there were enough hints that gave the public and the police to suspect a case of homicide which eventually led to protesters forcing business establishments to down their shutters.
The victim's foot interestingly were said to have rested on the floor though she was found hanging.
Drops of blood have dribbled from her mouth as well, said a source.
Suspecting a foul play, the police have also carried out the autopsy at Imphal in order to ascertain the true cause of her death.
A trader in Myanmar goods and a frequent traveller to Moreh, Hoinu is said to have resided in a rented shop at D Phailian following a split with her husband about two years ago.
The State Women Commission team headed by its Chairperson, I Ibetombi accompanied the body from Imphal after conducting the autopsy.
The Commission has demanded that the case of this heinous crime should immediately be cracked and those responsible awarded an exemplary punishment.
The Zomi Mothers' Association and the armed outfit, KNF(S) have separately condemned the incident.
