Imphal, April 21 2021:
Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members protesting against the State Government for not releasing MGNREGA funds and wages for job cardholders have reaffirmed their stand to continue their protest unless all their demands are actualised.
Briefing journalists at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, Waiton Gram Panchayat Pradhan Pukhrambam Surbala expressed her gratitude to one and all who support the 48 hours general strike being called by the PRIs.
Saying that non-distribution of wages for the job cardholders is unacceptable, Surbala contended that the Panchayat functionaries resorted to the shutdown agitation as the Government didn't give a solid reply to their (PRIs) demands.
It may be mentioned here that the PRIs who are also demanding implementation of the National Electronic Fund Management System and release of the 15th Finance Commission (2nd instalment) fund had also resolved to boycott the National Panchayati Raj Day, which falls on April 24 .
Urging the Government to fulfil their demands, the Pradhan warned of harsher agitations if their demands remain unheeded.
Surbala, however, stated that an agreement has been reached on issues pertaining to honoraria for Panchayat functionaries.
The press briefing was also attended by Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) Porompat secretary, N Jadumani Adhyaksha Imphal East, P Bimola, Adhyaksha Imphal West, RK Taruni and Pradhan of Khurai Nadeibam Leikai, Yumnam Chitra among others.
