After 30 years, Language Directorate becomes reality

Keeping his words, exactly 10 days after Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro had given the assurance of upgrading the Language Cell into a full-fledged Language Directorate within five days at the earliest or 10 days at the latest, the State Cabinet today approved establishment of a full-fledged Language Directorate in the State.
Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro had given the assurance while speaking on the occasion of 24th Foundation Day cum Annual Prize Distribution ceremony of KM Blooming Hr Secondary School at Khangabok.
A meeting of the State Cabinet was held at 3 pm today at Chief Minister's Cabinet Secretariat with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in
the chair.

Talking to mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting, Education Minister M Okendro, who is also the spokesperson of the State Government, said that the decision to establish a separate Language Directorate in the State has been taken considering the fact that Meetei Mayek is to be included in the Board Exam from 2015 onwards.
The Minister further informed that the State Cabinet has also decided to create 18 posts for the said Directorate.
"Since the Language Directorate would have many works and responsibilities, it has been decided to appoint an IAS officer as its Director who would be assisted by a Manipur Finance Service Officer", the Minister said, adding that the Cabinet has also resolved to translate the Manipuri Text books prescribed for Class IX and X into Meetei Mayek and Roman script.
Furthermore, Minister Okendro informed that the Manipur Government Employees List (MGEL) for all the Primary teachers under Education (S) and the teachers recruited under SSA would be relaxed for three months and the process of finalizing MGEL would be completed during this relaxed period.
All the pending monthly salaries of the Government teachers would be cleared and the teachers would not be made to suffer from pending salaries from the month of April next, the Minister assured.
Along with handing over the case related to seizure of drug at Imphal Airport to the CBI, the State Cabinet has also decided to send a written application to the Prime Minister of India to look into the cases of drug smuggling via airplanes, he added.
Minister Okendro also informed that MCS, MPS, MFS and other exams conducted by Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) would be held one after the other.
22 MCS officers, 25 MPS officers, 28 MFS officers, 15 SDCs and 1 Election Officer would be recruited.
Among other decisions taken in the meeting of the State Cabinet today, it has been recommended to convert two Fast Track Courts into Regular Courts for taking up cases related to crimes against women and children.
The Cabinet has also given its approval to recruitment of an attendant of State Museum gallery, Sweeper cum Chowkidar of Pakhangba Temple under Kangla Fort Board; allotment of 3.3 acres of land to Mary Kom Boxing Academy, recruitment of some gazette officers of Arts and Culture Department; implementation of Manipur Service (Revised Pay) Rule 2010 for the employees of Manipur Film Development Corporation and registration of the Manipur Forensic Science Development Society, the Minister said.
