Imphal, February 17, 2013:
Reacting against the remark of State BJP unit President Th Chaoba, who contended that Budget session of the Assembly for only three days is too short for any substantive discussion on important issues of the State, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has exclaimed that its time for Chaoba to retire from politics instead of trying to tarnish the image of ruling party for his own personal gain.
Ibobi, who attended as Chief Guest of the 'one day women's convention and awareness programmes on social issues' organised by Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) at Imphal East's Thambalkhong on Sunday, said that the effort to tarnish the image of Congress government in state was unfortunate.
Instead of misleading people against government and ruling party for the sake of gaining political mileage, it would be far better for Chaoba to take life-long retirement from politics.
Speaking at a reception function hosted at the Nityaipat Chuthek office of the party on February 15, Chaoba contended that the state government's announcement of 3-days State Assembly budget session would not be enough for discussion on any important issue and it is a strategy of the Congress led Government in the State to find ways for sanctioning more money and get them pocketed.
Chaoba also claimed that people of Manipur have lost their faith on the Ibobi-led Congress government in the state following socio-economic breakdown.
Setting the record straight, Ibobi said that the duration of State Budget session has been decided by Business Advisory Committee and none of political parties have the power to fix the duration of Assembly session.
Moreover, it is a tentative Budget session to discuss supplementary vote on account for the four months till April.
He (Chaoba), who had been elected to State Assembly and Parliament many a times should know how and who decided the duration of budget session in Assembly, Ibobi countered.
Ibobi went on to say that if someone keeps on switching from one party to party, then his/her intention could be nothing more than doing business in politics.
Highlighting the need of women's participation in governance, Ibobi said that Congress is making all effort to ensure adequate representation of women in different aspects of the governance.
Deputy Chief Minister and President of MPCC Gaikhangam, who presided over the function, observed that women have less confidence on their own kinswomen.
Generally, most of the women voted against woman candidates assuming that elected women representatives could do nothing.
This very mindset undermines the position of the women in the society.
Moreover, in every society women have more ill feelings and jealousies against their own kinswomen.
However, if we desire empowerment of woman, then women should stop all such wrong perception, Gaikhangam said.
Lok Sabha MP Dr Th Meinya and Secretary of IYC and in-charge of Manipur State Deepika Pandey were also present and spoke during the convention as Guests of Honour.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao on the sidelines of the convention, President of MPYCC Amir Hussain said that convention is being organized with the objective of creating awareness on the need for more participation of women in governance and decision making process.
Similar conventions are also being planned in other parts of the State to empower women and people of minority groups.
