HC prohibits clearance of phumdi-huts

Gauhati High Court has sanctioned orders prohibiting clearance of phumdi huts from Loktak Lake as against the threat of LDA, informed All Loktak Lake Area Fishermen Union.
Addressing media persons at the office of CNRPC at Keishampat here today, O Rajen, Secretary of All Loktak Lake Area Fishermen Union, informed since a case pending in the Gauhati High Court in connection with the decision of LDA to clear all the phumdi-huts from the lake, the court yesterday issued an order making it clear that no phumdi-hut should be removed from Loktak while the case is pending.
A case was filed against the decision of the LDA on November 11, 2011.Subsequently, the Gauhati High Court passed an order on January 25, 2012 prohibiting the LDA from clearing and burning of Phumdi-huts from the Loktak Lake.
The Gauhati High Court again passed an order on March 15, 2012 ordering LDA to follow the orders of the court.
Regardless of that, LDA on February 13, 2013 again asked the hut dwellers to vacant their phumdi-huts by February 18, following which a complaint was made to the Court.
The Court then passed an order stating that it would take up necessary legal actions against the Chairman of LDA, which happens to be the Chief Minister O Ibobi; it's Project Director, DC of Bishnupur district and its SP, if the court order is not abide by.
