Behavioral change needed to quit tobacco

Stating that most of the tobacco consumers know the impact of it, N Inaoba Singh, CMO Regional Officer for Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, said behavioral change is needed to quit smoking and consumption of tobacco.
Speaking at the inaugural of a 2-day Orientation Workshop on Family Welfare jointly organized by Song and Drama Division, Ministry of information and Broadcasting Imphal Center and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi, at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound here yesterday, Inaoba said, "Most of the tobacco consumers know the hazard of smoking and chewing tobacco.
However, they continue to use it.
So, behavioral change is need to change the mindset of the the people who consume this product".
M Kanankumar Singh, Chairman IMPCC Manipur, said, "In current scenario, health is very important; and knowing the importance of it, Indian government has instructed all the health departments to conduct health related programme on everyday basis at every place." Further, pointing out that propagation of health and family welfare awareness through media like drama, hoardings, posters, song, is the objective of the government, the Chairman said, "In the state, the ratio of doctor and population is outnumbered by the latter and I hope the S& DD artistes will impart importance of health and family welfare throughout the state".
Chief Guest of the function, Sh Shurchandra Sharma, Director Health Services Government of Manipur appealed to the S& DD artistes to spread the importance of health awareness throughout the state.
Addressing the gathering, A Ibochouba Singh, State Malaria Officer, explained, "There are around 250 species of mosquitoes.
Malaria is caused by the bite of encephalitis mosquitoes".
Urging the people who suffered from fever to rush to any of the nearest health center to identify whether the fever is that of Malaria or any other reasons, he said, "The first and foremost symptom of Malaria is fever and it might continue with profuse sweating".
