17 hurt in Cong, BJP clashes during re-poll

Atleast 17 people were hurt in clashes that broke out between supporters of BJP and Congress during repoll at five polling stations under Andro Assembly Constituency
today.
Andro AC having 44 polling stations was included in the first phase of the 11 th State Legislative Assembly election held on March 4 .
Sources said a clash erupted between BJP and Congress supporters when BJP supporters went to 7/41 Moirangpurel (A), 7/42 Tumukhong, 7/43 Moirangpurel (B) and 7/44 Itham polling stations at around 8 am.
A group of Congress supporters took eight BJP supporters atop a hill and assaulted them.
They suffered injuries in different parts of their bodies.
The injured BJP supporters were admitted to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) for treatment.
They are identified as Puthem Nandalala (30) of Andro, Md Abothem (27) of Yairipok Changamdabi, Nahakpam Radhabinod (32) of Yairipok Yambem, Thokchom Ningthem (43), Sanabam Kiran (30) and his younger brother Noren (25), Khumanthem Inao (43) and Nahakpam Rakesh of the same locality.
It is said that Abothem and Rakesh remained traceless.
According to Ningthem, sticks and catapults were used by the Congress supporters in assaulting them.
They managed to reach the hospital after police came to the spot.
Another clash between supporters of the two political parties erupted near the residence of Dr Nimaichand Luwang who contested in the election on a BJP ticket.
Four Congress supporters and five BJP supporters suffered injuries in the clash.
Whereabouts of one Congress supporter and two BJP supporters remained untraceable, the sources said.
A group of Congress supporters also attacked houses of some BJP supporters.
A team of Imphal East rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, it added.
