Free Medical Assessment Camp

A Free Medical Assessment Camp for Children with Special need (CWSN) of Machi block, Chandel District was held at Khangshim Village Community Hall today.
The Medical Assessment camp was organized as part of assessing and identifying differently abled children between the age group of 6-18 years in 35 educational blocks of the State to provide free education by District Programme Officer, Integrated Education for Disabled (IED) under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, (SSA) Chandel in collaboration with the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Chandel and State Mission Authority (SMA), Manipur.
During the camp, disabled children from villages under Machi block were diagnosed and medically assessed in the category of hearing impairment, visual impairment, mentally retarded and orthopaedical impairment by four specialist doctors.
While briefing media persons, Wahengbam (O) Joyrani, State co-ordinator, Integrated Education for Disabled, SSA Manipur said that the objective of organizing the assessment camp was to identify and assess the unidentified differently abled children to provide free education in accordance with the Right to Education, (RTE) Act.
She further said that after identifying the children, different aid and appliances like wheel chair, hearing aid, elbow clutches, walking sticks, etc., would be provided.
Lanu Pinky Aimol, District Co-ordination IED/SSA Chandel also told the media persons that free surgery would be conducted at Shija Hospital, Imphal for children who are advised by the doctors during the camp for any corrective surgery.
