Imphal, October 05 2021: The Mapithel Dam Affected Headmen, Chiefs and Elders Organisation (MDAHCEO) and Joint Action Committee Against Force Construction of Mapithel Dam, Manipur has called a 48-hour strike/bandh along Imphal-Kamjong and Imphal-Ukhrul roads from October 6.MDAHCEO, in a statement, said that the bandh has been called in protest against the State Government's indifferent attitude towards a 19-point agreement arrived with the organisations on December 4 last year.

Medical, electricity, marriages, examinations and other emergency services will be exempted from the purview of the bandh, the organisation said while urging all sections of the society to support the strike.

The State Government has not responded even after an ultimatum was served on September 16, the organisation said while adding that the villagers who have been rendered landless due to the construction of the dam will adopt more intense forms of protest if the State Government continues to sideline the agreement.
