Imphal West Commandos rescue abducted labourers

After 15 days of horrifying anguish in the hands of their abductors, the two labourers, who have been abducted by suspected armed cadres of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman group over a monetary demand of Rs 20 lakhs, were finally rescued by Imphal West District Commandos today.
After a fierce gun battle which took place between Imphal West District Police Commandos and suspected cadres of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman group inside the jungle of Yerum hill near Bongyang village under Sapermeina Police station at around 5 pm today, the two abducted labourers were rescued.
None was hurt in the gun battle which lasted for about 5 minutes.
The two labourers namely Laishram Somorjit (21) s/o L Doren of Laingam Khul and Elangbam Gandhi (28) s/o late E Tomba of Bamon Kampu Makha Leikai but staying at Lamdeng Khunou, have been abducted from their work place on August 20 last.
Both of them are engaged in construction of Maklang Junior High School, Imphal West District.

According to police reports, following specific information that some cadres of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman group along with the abducted labourers were in the jungle of Yerum Hill near Bongyang village, a team of Imphal West District Police Commandos led by DSP Th Krishnatombi rushed in and surrounded the area for the last two days.
The Police team also prohibited transportation of food and any other eatable items to the area where the armed cadres were hiding with the abducted labourers, thus starving them for two days.
At around 5 pm today, the police Commandos proceeded towards the area where the armed cadres were holed up from two directions.
As soon as the commandos entered the spot, the KCP (MC) cadres started firing towards the proceeding commandos with volleys of bullets.
The commando team also retaliated the firing.
Exchange of firing from both sides lasted for about 5 minutes.
However, the armed cadres of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman group managed to escape leaving behind the two abducted labourers on their own.Personnel of 10 Assam Rifles also assisted Imphal West District Police Commandos in the rescue operation.
The two labourers, who have been saved from the clutches of their abductors, informed Hueiyen Lanpao that after being abducted by the cadres of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman group on August 20 from their workplace, they were made to hold the night at a Nepali village.
The next day they were taken to a jungle in Bongyang village with their eyes blindfolded and hands tied to their backs.
While in captivity for 15 days, they were given meal for only three days.
On other days, they were given Chempak (Flattened rice).
They were guarded by around 10 armed cadres.
The two rescued labourers were later handed over to Patsoi Police station.
