AMPWA delegation, others call on Governor

A delegation of All Manipur Muslims (Meitei Pangal) Welfare Association (AMPWA) led by Janab AR Khan along with Md Akhtar Hussain, Md Abdus Salam, Md Naziruddin and Md Salaoddin Khan called on the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan today and donated a sum of Rs 50,000 to the Governor's Relief Fund.
According to a release issued by PRO Raj Bhavan, the delegation also submitted a memorandum to the Governor urging to extend 4% reservation of seats for admission in the non-professional (general) courses in higher education, setting up of model schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Meitei Pangal dominated areas to improve quality education.

They also demanded special Livelihood Mission Projects and skill development programmes designed for providing employment to the community particularly the women workforce.
The delegation also requested the Governor for activation of National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC) and National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC)'s programmes in the State.
The delegation expressed their unhappiness over the present unrest and assured to extend all possible support & cooperation in the efforts to restore peace and harmony in the State.
While welcoming their commitment to extend cooperation in the restoration of peace and harmony in the State, the Governor said, "All communities & stakeholders should come forward and join hands to cooperate with the Government in the efforts to settle the unrest in the State.
Both the Centre and the State Government are trying best to resolve the crisis to bring peace & harmony in Manipur" .
Moreover, Sunil Nagpal, state head (operations), HDFC Bank Ltd along with Rajen Wahengbam also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan today and highlighted various activities taken up by the Bank under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
Sunil Nagpal informed the Governor about the annual blood donation drive taken up by the bank starting from 2007 .
"The largest blood donation (multiple venues) involved 61,902 participants and was achieved by HDFC Bank limited (India) in 1,115 blood donation camps across 709 locations in India on December 6, 2023", he added.
The Governor appreciated the initiative taken up by the bank and asked the banker to extend assistance to the violence hit Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) staying in different relief camps in the State.
She also advised them to initiate training programmes to ease the process for loan recovery and delivery to the IDPs.
Besides, Ng Nongyai, former Member of Manipur Human Rights Commission along with four others also called on Governor at Raj Bhavan today and apprised her about the prevailing demographic imbalance in the State.
The team submitted a memorandum to the Governor requesting to implement NRC at the earliest so that foreigners/outsiders can be identified and repatriated to their native places.
They also apprised the Governor on the need to formulate a Population Policy to check the population imbalance.
While assuring the team for a permanent solution to the present unrest, the Governor said that everyone should work together and give priority on restoration of peace & normalcy in the State.
She also asserted that the Government has already taken up steps to identify illegal immigrants and once the present crisis is solved, steps to implement different policies would be taken up.
