Sikpui Ruoi festival celebrated at Silchar

Sikpui Ruoi festival was celebrated today at District Library Auditorium, Suchar, Assam, under the aegis of Hmar Students Association, Silchar Branchand Hmar Welfere Society, Silchar.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr R K Singson, Head of the Office, AIR Kailashar, Tripura conveyed that Sikpui Ruoi is a festival of the Hmar Community which is celebrated only when a bountiful of crops are harvested in a year.
Such year is known as 'Tarpang ralinsan' in Hmar dialect.
The inaugural session of the event was attended by S K Khobung (the Sikpui Pa), Chief Housing Officer, Assam as special guest and Dr R K Singson as guest of honour.
The day-long event was rocked with musical performances by guest artistes including Lien Shakum of Ccpur district and Je Ei Hmar of Shillong along with their local counterparts.
The event consisted of Hmar traditional dance, songs performance and fashion parade.
The event was also attended by many dignitaries from Hmar Community of Barak Valley including Advocate Elizabeth Singson, Ad- vocate in Silchar District Court and an advisor of Hmar Students Association, Silchar branch and Dr Zenith R Farheim, medical officer, Health Department, Assam.
It can be noted that there are about 45 Hmar inhabitants villages in Barak Valley, the southern most part of Assam with the population of about 60,000, reports our correspondent.
