Rifleman Ngamthui Gangmei of 32 Assam Rifles accused of raping a 19-year old girl in March last will be grilled in the military court as court martial proceedings against him is imminent this week.
Ngamthui Gangmei, who actually hails from Nagaland was stationed at the 32 AR unit's post in Kotlien with his crime committed at Veitum Khullen village under Sapermeina police station.
According to informed source, Ngamthui will face military prosecutors at the 32 Bn headquarters of the Assam Rifles located in Keithelmanbi.
With his attempt to coax the girl identified as Nengneikim Haokip not evoking any favourable response, Ngamthui reportedly turned physical and ostracised chastity of the girl before she managed to wriggle out of the inebriated jawan's clutch, fled from the spot and informed her local elders.
With Ngamthui escaping to the safety of the AR post after he was chased and initially nabbed by two village youths, AR authorities initiated an inquiry consequently leading to the preparation for the court martial proceeding.
