289 candidates left in field

With one candidate withdrawing his candidature and another candidate being disqualified after his judgment was reserved, a total of 289 candidates have been approved for contesting in the 10th Manipur State Assembly Election.
According to reports from the State Election office, the candidate who has withdrawn his candidature is Kongkham Tomba who filed nomination as an Independent candidate in Mayang Imphal A/C.The other candidate who has been disqualified has been identified as one MoirangthemTomtomsana Nongshaba.
He too had filed nomination as an Independent candidate from Heirok A/C.As of now, altogether 289 candidates have been approved for contesting election and since tomorrow being the last day for withdrawal of nominations, the final list of candidates will be available by tomorrow, said the reports.
The reports from the State Election Office further revealed that there are four constituencies which will be see a straight fights.
Two of the constituencies are in the hills and the other two are in the plains.
The constituencies where there will be straight fights among two political parties are Moirang, Kakching, Karong and Thanlon.
In Moirang A/C, the battle will be between the INC and the NCP, with sitting MLA M Prithviraj contesting in the INC ticket and retired IAS officer, P Saratchandra on NCP ticket.
Kakching A/C will be a battlefield for the CPI candidate N Achou and INC candidate Y Surchandra.
Karong A/C will be a battlefield for Nagaland based Political Party, NPF and the ruling party; INC where sitting MLA DD Thaisii of INC will be contesting with Dr Alexander of NPF.
Thanlon A/C will witness a fierce battle between the Congress candidate Bungjagin Valte and CPI candidate Twanzalien Lianpu.
Among the approved list of aspiring candidates, there will be 60 candidates contesting in Imphal East district, 64 candidates in Imphal West, 42 in Thoubal, 28 candidates in Bishnupur, 14 candidates in Chandel, 16 candidates in Ukhrul, 21 candidates in Senapati, 10 candidates in 34 in Churachandpur distrtict.
The Congress has fielded its candidates in all the 60 constiuencies of the state.
In the 11 constituencies of Imphal East, the Trinamool Congress will be contesting in 10 seats, NCP in 6 seats, BJP in 4 seats, CPI in7 seats, MSCP in 9 seats and MPP in one seat.
In Imphal West the Trinamool Congress will be contesting in 12 seats, NCP and MSCP will be contesting in 7 seats each, BJP in 5 seats, MPP in 4 seats and the JDU in one seat.
In Thoubal district where there are 10 seats, the Trinamool Congress will be contesting in 6 seats, MPP and MSCP in 5 seats while BJP and CPI will be contesting in 4 seats each.
In Bishnupur district where there are 6 seats, the Trinamool Congress and MPP will be contesting in 4 seats each, BJP, NCP and CPI will be contesting in 2 seats each and MSCP in 3 seats.
In Chandel district the Congress, NPF, CPI and Trinamool Congress will be contesting in all the 2 seats while BJP and MSCP will be contesting in one seat each only.
In Senapati district where there are six seats, the Trinamool Congress will be contesting in 5 seats, NPF in 3 seats, MSCP and JDU in 2 seats each while NPP and NCP will be contesting in 1 seat each.
In Tamenglong district, the INC, NPF and MSCP will be contesting in all the 3 seats while Trinamool Congress will be contesting in only one seat.
In Churachandpur district where there are 6 seats, the Trinamool Congress will be contesting in 5 seats, NCP in 4 seats, NPP in 2 seats and CPI in 1 seat.
In Ukhrul district the Congress and NPF will be contesting in all the three seats, Trinamool Congress in 2 seats while NCP and MSCP will be filing their candidates in one seat only.
