Speaking to the press, the campaign convenor Deben Sharma said Manipur has had an Assembly institution formed by the elected representatives since October 18, 1948. He maintained that the campaign was organised in commemoration of the formation of the said institution.
Launched on October 18, 2011, Deben asserted that the campaign is being organised to spread the democratic rights entitled to all people which is being violated by superficial leaders of the country.
In a public meeting held at the finishing venue of the rally, campaign chairman Prof Bimol Akoijam said that there are various public issues pertaining to the people of the State and such issues should be discussed properly prior to the elections.
Highlighting public issues such as problems of not getting electricity and drinking water, quality education, employment problems, communal politics and armed conflict, the chairman maintained that people have turned a blind eye to these issues important, with the monetary enticement dangled by the candidates paralysing their thinking capacity.
He further appealed to all the people of the State to cast their vote for candidates who can address public issues .
It is a wake up time for all to understand their democratic rights.
