Imphal, July 11 2017:
MPP has threatened to launch different forms of sustained agitation if a Bill or an Ordinance which can protect indigenous people of the land is not passed in the forthcoming Assembly session which commences from July 20 .
Demanding enforcement of ILPS or a similar mechanism in Manipur in order to protect indigenous people from the onslaught of incessant influx, MPP staged a protest demonstration at the party's office complex here today .
MPP president O Jugindro who also took part in the protest demonstration said that a Bill or an Ordinance which can effectively protect indigenous people must be tabled and passed in the forthcoming monsoon session of the State Assembly .
If such a Bill or an Ordinance cannot be passed, the Government must enact and enforce a regulation in order to protect indigenous people otherwise MPP would undertake different modes of sustained agitation, Jugindro said .
To safeguard the State's territorial integrity, protect all ethnic groups and promote peaceful co-existence among different communities of Manipur are the primary objectives of MPP, he continued.
The incumbent Government should devise an effective means to protect indigenous people .
Many student bodies, civil society organisations and the general public have been campaigning for enforcement of ILPS or a similar mechanism in the State since a long time back.
It was rather disheartening that the President of India refused to give consent to the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly for protection of indigenous people on August 31, 2015, decried the MPP president .
MPP found it heard to tolerate when sons of the soil who were efficient and qualified were removed from the posts of Chief Secretary and Manipur University's Vice Chancellor and the same posts were handed to outsiders, he added.
