Imphal, March 03 2020:
Manipur will prosper as long as the Art & Culture of the State survives.
CAF & PD Karam Shyam made the above statement as the chief guest of the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award 2016-17, organised by Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy at its auditorium today.
Saying that the State has been able to stand out in a country with diverse cultures and religions through its Art & Culture, Karam Shyam continued that it is very applaudable that these fields are representing the people and the State.
He stated that the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award should be presented a little early to the recipients as many of them are elders while adding that it would be unfortunate if the award is not presented before their time.
The Minister assured that the State Government will extend every possible help to the Akademi when it comes to shortage of funds.
Even though the Art & Culture have been neglected before, the recent highlight of these areas in the Assembly shows that people have become properly aware of its values, he noted.
The present generation are giving more focus on these fields and acknowledging the teachers/gurus of Art & Culture.
Art & Culture Commissioner M Joy attended the function as president.
Altogether, 19 recipients were conferred the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award 2016-17 while the Akademi Young Talented Award was presented to 6 persons and Akademi Fellow was also given to 2 persons during the ceremony.
The award carries cash, citation and shawl.
