Awareness programmes on COVID-19 conducted

An awareness programme on COVID-19 was organised by Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Langol at its auditorium today.
Senior Consultant Physician, Shija Hospitals Dr Narendra Potshangbam talked about the virus as a resource person while Managing Director cum Chairman of the hospital, Dr Palin Khundongbam was also present.
Speaking at the awareness programme, Dr Narendra underlined the need to know thoroughly about the virus so that preventive measures can be taken up effectively.
Dr Narendra informed that coronavirus is mostly found in mammals like bats and Felidae (A family of mammals in the order Carnivora, colloquially referred to as cats, and constitutes a clade).
Saying that the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) happened in 2002 while MERS-CoV (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus) outbreak occurred in 2012, he added that outbreak of COVID-19 is new.
Some of the basic and necessary preventive measures that people should follow are washing hands thoroughly and frequently, maintaining hygiene, staying hydrated etc, he added.
Opining that the current preventive measures initiated at the airport, Jiri and Moreh are not enough, Dr Narendra mentioned that extensive and in depth measures are necessary to keep the virus at bay and from entering into the State.
In a separate event, an awareness programme for staff of Manipur High Court was organised on coronavirus at the premises of the Court today.
The programme was organised under the directive of Chief Justice of Manipur High Court Ramalingam Sudhakar.
Altogether, 150 employees attended the programme.
