Parliamentary Secretaries nears reality

Imphal, June 26 2012:
A Bill for appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries would be tabled at the State Assembly scheduled to commence tomorrow.
This was decided in a Cabinet meeting held this evening.
Certain points of the Bill to which the Governor was not in agreement would be amended and the Bill now christened Manipur Parliamentary Secretary (Appointment, Salary, Miscellaneous Provision) Bill 2012 would be tabled at the State Assembly tomorrow.
The Parliamentary Secretaries will enjoy the rank of Minister of State and they would be sworn in by the Chief Minister.
They would be given salaries in the scale of MLAs and they would be provided Government vehicles, security, supporting staff and office.
Notably, the ordinance for appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries was returned to the Government on May 9 last.
The meeting also agreed to introduce the Manipur Municipality 6th Amendment Bill 2012 during the session.
In case the Bill is passed by the House, the authority concerned would be empowered to levy property tax within Municipal areas, informed a senior Minister.
Meanwhile, it is reported that a Government spokesperson may be appointed after the Assembly.
