A woman who was accidentally shot during a gun attack by unidentified armed men on a former NSCN-IM cadre on October 8 is reportedly in a very critical condition at JNIMS.
It can be recalled that Mataimei Muivah, a former NSCN-IM cadre from Muirei village in Ukhrul district was called out from his home by an unidentified youth who was accompanied by another youth in Honda Activa and was shot.
Following the gun shots, Mataimei managed to run and take shelter at Ningola's house who was his neighbour.
Ningola at that time was with her one month old grandson.
The unidentified men continued to fire and accidentally shot Ningola at her back and right abdomen.
She along with her grandson was rushed to JNIMS on the same day.
While the grandson was discharged with no major injury the next day, Ningola had to undergo a major surgery to remove the bullets.
Speaking exclusively to The Sangai Express, the doctor who is treating Ningola stated that the bullets have reportedly damaged her liver, pancreas and other main organs of her body.
Ningola at present is conscious but is facing difficulty in breathing and battling for her life, her doctor added.
Family members of Ningola strongly condemning the incident said that the State Government has not extended any assistance till date nor have they caught the involved persons.
