Village denounces deteriorated road

Residents of Khuilungtang Dungrei, Hungpung Ukhrul on Tuesday strongly condemned the authorities concerned for prolonged neglect of the vital link road (about 2.26 km) that connects the village with the National Highway-202.Talking to this correspondent, chairman of Khuilungtang, Sheirei Vashum alleged that the stretch was damaged due to prolonged negligence.
The water seeped from the 'sub-standard drainage' has damaged the road, he asserted.
Incomplete slab culvert on the stretch has also added to the woes of the commuters, he added.
Temporary makeshift wooden slabs are used to cross small cars.
Heavy vehicles are restricted, he said.
S Vashum alleged that the authorities concerned did not followed the prescribed rules in construction of the road.
The locals are not satisfy with retaining wall, he said and added that blacktopping is yet to take up.
It may be mentioned that the link road leads to Model Green Colony of Ukhrul district, where Pisgah eco park, Zingjar medicinal herb and flower garden and upcoming science planetarium and NERCOMP resource centre.
The road is the shortest route to Kamjong district from Ukhrul town.
The Khuilungtang residents appealed the department and authorities concerned to look into the condition of the road and take up actions for improvement works at the earliest.
