Ginzalam's case settled, body to be claimed today

The JAC formed in connection with the death of Ginzalam, a resident of Singngat under mysterious circumstances have today managed to arrived at an amicable settlement after talks were held at Zou colony, Churachandpur.
The JAC formed yesterday issued a deadline of 2 pm today for a settlement, in a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner Churachandpur the same day.
Accordingly the Police Department and families of the police personnel implicated in the case at about 5.30 pm held talks on the customary lines to finally arrive at a settlement late in the evening, sources said.
Though the terms of the settlement are not made public in details, the body which have been kept at the district hospital mortuary in Churachandpur for the past three days will be claimed by the family tomorrow.
It may be noted that the JAC against Police Atrocities on (L) Ginzalam which was formed yesterday have alleged police atrocities as the reason behind Ginzalam's death.
In their memo to the Deputy Commissioner they claimed that five police personnel in civvies under the command of 2nd OC Singngat PS raided the house of Ginzalam on August 31 at about 5 am.
As the team couldn't find anything illicit they took him to the police station where he was tortured till 10 am, it said further alleging that he was finally let off with a threat of dire consequences if he fails to produce a soap case full of heroin to them before 4 pm of the same day.
Thereafter his whereabout remained unknow until his lifeless body was found hanging in a cowshed in a nearby locaility, it added.
With the JAC's deadline expiring today the authorities concerned worked overtime to script the settlement late in the evening.
