Imphal, September 05 2019:
Asserting that Chief Minister N Biren has been doing nothing to pile the pressure to ensure that the CBI takes over the mysterious death case of Ningthoujam Babysana, Congress MLA Kh Joykisan said that the State Government should be held responsible for any untoward incident that may happen in the course of people's struggle for justice.
The Chief Minister assured on the floor of the State Assembly that he would go to Delhi and urge the Prime Minister's Office to let the CBI take over the case but he has been sleeping on his assurance, Joykisan decried.
Speaking to media persons today, Joykisan said that the 48 hours State-wide general strike which ended on Wednesday morning was invited by the Government.
Had the Government handed over the case to CBI as it assured repeatedly, the general strike would not have been called, he said.
After his assurance to go to Delhi, neither Chief Minister N Biren has gone to Delhi nor has he sent either the Chief Secretary or the DGP to urge the Central Government to the effect that the case of Babysana is handed over to the CBI, Joykisan decried.
While JAC co-convenors Pratap, Chittaranjan and Joykumar and some other protesters were arrested and sent to jail, police refused to arrest a large number of protesters who courted mass arrest, he said while questioning police discrimination among protesters.
He went on ask why some protesters have been arrested while leaving out many others.
There are still some co-convenors who have not been arrested.
But again, police have been raiding the houses of a few co-convenors while the rest are left undisturbed, Joykisan said.
Taking strong exception to the Government's pressure tactics, Joykisan also decried the Government's deafening silence when a protester has been fasting unto death.
The general strike was called as there was no other option after protest rallies, hunger strikes etc were not allowed or cut short by police using brute force.
The general strike was compelled by the Government, he said.
Referring to certain media reports that the case of Babysana would be handled by CBI Kolkata, Joykisan said that the issue persists because the Government has been paying little attention to it.
He went on to ask if the five persons including the Principal of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur who have been arrested in the aftermath of the mysterious death of Babysana have been held in connection to the case or not.
Police have stated that the administrators of Standard Robarth Hr Sec School were found running a parallel boarding school of the same name and both the schools were run under a single Principal.
Police have also stated that all the students who were staying together with Babysana in their hostel were studying in an 'illegal school' and they were arrested under IPC 420, Joykisan pointed out.
Asking how the Government allowed operation of a 'fake school', the Thangmeiband AC MLA demanded a convincing clarification from the Government.
