Imphal, September 05 2019:
The father of late Ningthoujam Babysana, N Tomchou, has announced that he is ready to give his statement on the mysterious death of his daughter inside the hostel of Standard Robarth Hr Sec School, if the authorities desire.
However, he said that he will do so only in the presence of a Magistrate.
Speaking to media persons at a location of Imphal, N Tomchou said that during a discussion programme on a popular TV channel on September 2, the Editor of a local daily claimed that Babysana's case had been withdrawn from the High Court of Manipur.
This is not so.
As the local MLA could not bring up the issue during the recent Assembly session if the case remained in the Court, it was put on leave, Tomchou clarified, adding that the case will be revived again.
So a temporary leave was taken.
But when the MLA brought up the issue during the Assembly session, it was learned that the State Government had failed to hand over the case to the CBI despite its claims, Tomchou alleged.
Tomchou asked the Govt to arrest him and his wife if they desperately need to arrest someone in connection with the case.
On the other hand, the convenor in-charge of the JAC, Laishram Gyaneshori said that the people, CSOs, clubs and Meira Paibis are demanding just and proper punishment for those involved in the death of Ningthoujam Babysana and added that the main objective behind the movement is for delivering justice to Babysana and to prevent such unfortunate incidents inside hostels and boardings of the State in the future.
However, she alleged that the State Government and most importantly the Chief Minister is trying to make it seem like a case of suicide instead of heeding the demand of the people, which is really unfortunate.
She then asked on what ground the SP concerned madee his claims that the issue of N Babysana has been manipulated by some members of the JAC for their vested interests, and demanded the police and the authorities concerned to refrain from making such false claims and anger the people in the future.
She further questioned the claims by the SP that the statements of more than 40 people have been recorded, by asking why there has not been any positive development till date if indeed all these people have given their statements.
Why is the police trying to arrest the JAC members and the family members of Babysana instead and why is the police not giving the details of the 40 individuals who have given their statement, she asked.
Gyaneshori asked why the Government is trying to arrest the parents of the deceased who are grieving the loss of their child, when it should be solving the case.
She then demanded the 40 so claimed individuals to be produced and their statements recorded again before a Magistrate.
Demanding immediate and unconditional release of all the arrested JAC members, she said that the JAC will not back off until and unless documents or proofs that the case has been given to the CBI, reach the JAC.
On the other hand, she, on behalf of the JAC, expressed gratitude to the people and all those concerned who ensured the success of the recent 48 hours Statewide bandh called by it.
