The Chief Secretary and Law Secretary have been served contempt of court notices by the Gauhati High Court Imphal Bench for their failure to comply with the court's earlier verdict passed on July 6 last.
The notices were served yesterday following a contempt petition filed by programme executive of Human Rights Alert, Wahengbam Joykumar and another person.
In response to a PIL filed by two petitioners, the court as per its verdict on July 6 last had asked the respondents, in this case the Chief Secretary and the law Secretary, to ensure the service of counsellors in family court by appointing adequate number of such counsellors within six months.
The case dossier said that the respondents were intimated of the July 6 verdict on August 1, last year asked them to comply with it.
A contempt petition was filed again at the same court seeking directive for the respondents' compliance with the court's verdict within the stipulated period.
The petition also prayed for initiation of contempt proceedings against the respondents for they failed to comply with the verdict.
