After an increased yield of rice was harvested last year from SRI method of paddy cultivation, the same method would be applied in 1500 hectares of paddy field during the first cropping of the current season.
Under the supervision of the Department of Agriculture, PAC 807 variety of paddy would be cultivated over 1500 hectares using SRI method.
This was stated by Agriculture Director L Palendro at Yumnam Huidrom yesterday.
In addition to PAC 807, high yielding variety IR 64 would also be cultivated in 3000 hectares using SRI method.
But these 3000 hectares should be well-irrigated and have adequate water, Palendro said.
The Agriculture Director was at Yumnam Huidrom Lamkhai to oversee preparation of 10 hectares of land for paddy cultivation using SRI method under ICDP (Rice).
Palendro said that SRI method would be applied in paddy cultivation over 10,000 hectares under Rastriya Krishi Vigyan Yojana.
Exuding that SRI method would give much better yield, palendro appealed to farmers to take up the same method of paddy cultivation.
