Tengnoupal Battalion and Moreh Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) seized a huge cache of contraband drugs worth Rs 11.14 crore in three different operations from Khudengthabi Check Post and Moreh today.
In a statement, PRO of Assam Rifles said that in the first incident at around 7.15 am, based on specific inputs, a team of Tengnoupal Battalion seized approximately 420 grams of brown sugar contained in 32 packets from a white coloured Maruti A Star travelling from Moreh to Imphal.
The drugs were hidden inside a fabricated compartment above the fuel tank of the vehicle.
The assessed market value of the seized contraband is Rs 84 lakh, said the statement and added that the contraband was illegally being transported by two individuals who identified themselves as Paolun Haokip (25) of Tusum village, Senapati district and Jangkhopao Kipgen (24) of Dimjang village, Senapati district.
In another incident, a team of Tengnoupal Battalion along with Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) Imphal seized drugs worth Rs 1.92 crore at Khudengthabi Check Post at around 12 pm on the same day.
Acting on inputs, a joint team of Tengnoupal battalion and NAB carried out a thorough checking at Khudengthabi.
During the frisking and checking the joint team recovered 960 grams of orange coloured powder suspected to be brown sugar contained in 72 packets amounting to about Rs 1.92 crore.
The contraband drugs were illegally being transported from Moreh to Imphal in a grey coloured Maruti Brezza bearing Registration No MN026-3257 by an individual who identified himself as Seiboi Singsit (28) of Kangpokpi.
The drugs were hidden inside the hollow channels of the chassis of the vehicle.
All three aprehendees along with recovered contraband and vehicle were handed over to NAB Imphal.
With its continuous vigil and relentless crack down on illegal trafficking of contrabands in the region, the Moreh Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles recovered contraband drugs of a whooping amount worth Rs 8.37 crores approximately on 26 February 2019.Moreh Battalion also received reliable inputs regarding presence of a high profile drug peddler in Moreh town.
On receipt of the input, multiple parties were launched to sanitize the area and to avoid any untoward incident, as the operation involve detailed house search of a high profile drug peddlers.
The Moreh Battalion carried out the house search in synergy with Moreh police including representative of Mahila police.
During the detailed search of a house, drugs kept at multiple locations were recovered.
The recovered contraband drugs include Brown Sugar 2.570 Kg, heroin 240 gms and WIY tablets 68012 number.
Apart from these contraband Indian currency of Rs 23.40 lakh and Myanmarese currency worth 1.90 lakh Kyat (Rs 9,000 in INR) were also recovered from the house.
On detailed questioning the individual identified himself as Jilkhongam @ Tarman Lhungdim (44) resident of Ward No 2, Moreh.
