Imphal, August 23 2021:
The High Court of Manipur has stayed the order of the Government of August 2, 2021 that compelled all the Fair Price Shop agents to get vaccinated if they are to continue discharging their duty as FPS agents.
Hearing a PIL, the HC maintained that without dispelling the fears amongst the people as to the effects of the Covid vaccines by educating them, the State could not impose conditions to compel the public to get vaccinated.
The HC had already passed an order regarding this on July 12, 2021 .
The State, however, passed an order on August 2 making it mandatory for all FPS agents to get vaccinated, lest they would be denied permission to distribute monthly rations.
The Court directed the State to adopt and advocate suitable measures and systems to educate the public so that they will willingly come forth to get vaccinated and added that the authorities cannot individually come up with their own tactics to pressurize those who are unwilling to take the vaccination.
