Airport drug haul case : Charge framed against 0 Henry, others

Imphal, May 22 2017:
Special Court of Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance, Lamphelpat has framed charge against MLA ofW angkhei AC Okram Henry and five others in the Imphal Airport drug haul case.
Charge hearing against the accused was held in the Court today under charge sheet number 6 of 2016 by DSP CBI, BB Chakarvarty for the punishable offence under Section 120 (b)/420/468/471 and 506 of Indian Penal Code.
Except Ramveer Tyagi, all the accused in the case namely Sapam Angus @ Naoba @ Nanao, Md Rajauddin, Luwangbam Tarpon and Rajneesh Kumar were present in today's Court proceeding.
Ramveer Tyagi who was represented by his counsel filed a dispense in the Court.
The Court has set June 9 for hearing of prosecution witnesses of the case.
CBI had put up the case before the Court on April 18, 2016 against MLA O Henry and four others.
Luwangbam Tarpon was later indicted as one of the accused during the hearing of charge consideration of the case.
It may be mentioned that a team of SIU seized a huge consignment of contraband drug concealed in seven carton boxes from Imphal Tulihal Airport.
The case was later handed over to CBI for investigation.
The Special Investigation Unit of the State police which detected the drug haul and seized the same was disbanded after the case came to light, leading many to question the rationale behind disbanding it.
