With regards to the controversy arising out of the reported sale of drugs manufactured by B-Bruan Company beyond expiry date and overcharging in the sale of some medicines, Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association (MCDA) has clarified that the association is not responsible for the issue.
A press release issued by the general secretary of the association said that although MCDA remains alert to check illegal sale of drugs in the State, it is not possible to control all such such cases by the association.
Maintaining that MCDA is also not the authority to punish the culprits, the press release added that there were however cases of initiating legal action by the association against illegal sale of drugs in the past.
Regarding B-Braun Company, the press release said that the company is a reputed international company which mainly manufactures IV Fluids and surgical items which are essential in the treatment of critical patients admitted at ICUs.
The press release cautioned that imposing ban on B-Braun Company may give inconvenience to these patients.
It added that necessary reports would be gathered and the same would be communicated with the company if there is actual sale of drugs manufactured by the company beyond expiry date.
Regarding overcharging in the sale of medicines as well, the association would bring the truth in light and make it public soon, the press release said.
Expressing reservations over the allegations levelled against the association by FREINDS in connection with the controversy, the press release observed that the issue must be informed to MCDA for deliberation before making it public through the media.
