As a part of annual calendar programme of the Justice Committee on Anglo Manipur War 1891 Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak Manipur, the Leimaton Battle, Machin Manao Battle of Kakching and Mayankhang Battle and others of the Anglo-Manipur War 1891 will be commemorated under the aegis of the committee along with the families of the martyrs and freedom fighter.
This was stated by Heikrujam Ibotombi Khuman, chairman of the committee during a press meet held at International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) Kangleipak office today afternoon.
Speaking to media persons, he explained that the annual Anglo Manipur War 1891 commemoration programme has been taken up jointly to pay tributes to the courageous patriots, known and unknown soldiers of Kangleipak who sacrificed bravely in the Anglo Manipur War 1891 .
He then alleged that the State Government has failed to take up any measures for remembering the unsung martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the battles of Anglo Manipur War.
He further stated that the State Government is only observing Khongjom Lan Day on April 23 and Patriots Day on August 13 and added that the family members of the known and unknown martyrs, along with the committee made it an annual programme to commemorate the martyrs and freedom fighters of Manipur.
On January 17, the death anniversary observation of Major Chongtha Miya was held at Narayan Khamar, Tripura by Chongtha Miya Memorial Trust Tripura in association with the committee, followed by the commemoration of Kangla Attack at Kangla and commemoration of the First Anglo Manipur War 1891 and paying of tributes to Yaishul Lakpa, Sengoisana and the unknown soldiers who fought at the Thoubal Athokpam Battle, he informed.
He continued that the family members of the known and unknown martyrs, along with the committee are looking forward for the commemoration of Laimaton Battle which took place at Joujangtek, Laimaton, Leimatak and Khujamlok on April 22, 1891, commemoration of Wangkhei Meiraba Poila at Maching Manao Ching Battle at Kakching where about 20 soldiers of Kangleipak lost their lives in the hands of the British army on April 23, 1891 and commemoration of Mayangkhang Battle.
He further stated that the Khongjom Battle of April 25, one of the biggest battles of the Anglo Manipuri War, 1891 at Tengol Lampak, Khebaching and Langthabal in which Paona Brajabasi, Chinglensana, Heirangkhongja along with more than 300 soldiers sacrificed their lives, will be commemorated and on May 25, Pukhramba Kajao, who was hanged at the western gate of Kangla for killing Mr Grimwood, Political Agent, will also be commemorated.
On June 8, commemoration of Niranjan Singh Chhetri Subedar who was hanged for taking part in waging war against British empire despite his earlier service at the British Army will be held and on August 13, commemoration of Koirengsana Senapati alias Tikendrajit and Thangal General who were hanged in front of more than 5000 people at Pheidabung, now known as BT Park, will be observed, he added.
He then appealed all to participate in the commemoration of the martyrs, patriots, freedom fighters of Kangleipak and also appealed all concerned not to impose any kind of bandh or blockade on the said dates.
