Imphal, April 20 2019:
A minor boy was electrocuted and two others were seriously injured after they came into contact with high tension electric wire in between Phalang and Goda villages under Phungyar PS, Phungyar district today morning.
According to the villagers, the incident occurred at around 8.30 am.
The deceased has been identified as Mk Thotthan s/o Mk Rocky of Phalang village, a class IV student of Phungyar Tribal School while the two injured minors are identified as Ngahanthem Jajo s/o Ningreishang Jajo and Okpei Jajo s/o Malungchang Jajo.
Till the time of filing this report, the dead body of the deceased is still lying at the incident site as police have failed to reach the spot due to the remoteness of the village as well as lack of police vehicles in Phungyar PS.
On the other hand, the villagers explained that the other two minors sustained injuries and were rendered unconscious after they tried to pull out and save the deceased who had come in contact with the live wire.
They were rushed to Ukhrul town due to the poor health care facility in Phungyar district and from Ukhrul, they will be taken to Imphal for further treatment in an ambulance.
According to the locals, the deceased minor and the two others, were staying at their respective homes for the Good Friday and Easter Holidays and today morning, they went out to visit the grandmother of the deceased Mk Thotthan, at Goda village.
The unfortunate incident occurred when they were returning home and the deceased minor stepped on the live HT electric wire which had fallen on ground.
The locals further stated that it is uncertain as to how and when the HT wire got snapped and how it was kept lying there.
Alleging that the accident is caused by the negligence of the Electricity Department, the locals demanded a proper investigation of the case and to give befitting punishment to the negligent officials of the department.
The locals have also resolved not to claim the dead body until and unless a proper compensation is provided to the parents of the deceased as well as the injured minors, by the State Government and the Electricity Department.
On the other hand, members of the Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights has filed a compliant to the OC Phungyar PS for speedy communication and immediate action in connection with the incident and to register an FIR.
Attempts to contact Senior Police officers of Phungyar PS proved futile due to the remoteness and weak mobile connection of the area.
