Imphal, April 20 2019:
BJP Manipur State unit has written to the Election Commission of India urging the Commission to take up necessary legal actions against Congress MLAs K Meghachandra and K Ranjit for allegedly harassing and threatening a security personnel who was on duty during the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency election on April 18 .
Speaking to media persons at BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek today, party spokesperson K Saratkumar said that BJP State unit strongly condemns the arrogant and high handed attitude shown by the two Congress MLAs who went to another Assembly Constituency and threatened/harassed a security personnel who was performing his duties during the election.
He explained that as per the Representation of Peoples Act 1951, any MLA or MP cannot cross over to another Assembly segment and the Act contains provision of imprisonment of up to two years for those who violate these rules and regulations.
BJP State unit has filed a complaint to the ECI against the two MLAs so as to ensure proper legal actions against them, he added.
