MHRC takes up case

In an extremely rare incident, Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has taken up a case against the decision taken by the locals of a Leikai to banish a particular household and instructed the SP concerned to take up necessary lawful actions.
According to a reliable source, one Ningthoujam Subasini Devi of Khabam Lamkhai, under Heingang PS, filed a complaint to MHRC under Section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act 1993, which the commission registered as case No 2 of 2018 .
The case proceedings was held yesterday under the supervision of the Acting Chairperson of the commission and following the proceedings, the Acting Chairperson directed Imphal East SP to do the needful as per the law.
Explaining about yesterday's proceedings, the source stated that the counsel of the complainant, Th Ronel, submitted that Socio Development Sub-Committee (Khabam Lamkhai Chumbreithong) and one Longjam Mangi of the same Leikai, had resorted to various illegal practices against the complainant Subasini Devi.
The complainant had earlier appealed to the SP of Imphal East for necessary protection but to no avail.
As such the complainant was forced to file a complaint to the MHRC, the counsel submitted.
After hearing the submission of the counsel, the Acting Chairman of the commission directed the SP concerned to do the needful to prevent any kind of illegal actions against Subasini and her family members by members of Social Development Sub Committee, Khabam Lamkhai Chumbreithong.
