District hospital employees launch cease work

Ukhrul, September 10 2016:
Protesting the lack of adequate medical staff members in Ukhrul district hospital, employees today launched a cease work strike, reports Mungchan Zimik.
The agitation was launched following the dead of a patient at the hospital last evening.
Medical Superintendent, Ukhrul Dr Laltharli stated although she is being posted in Ukhrul, she could not undertake all the work in the district hospital due to her other work assignments.
Therefore, she had appointed one Additional Medical Superintendent to look after the hospital.
However the doctor declines to hold the post.
Dr Laltharli further asserted that she has already been transferred to other place.
At the same time, Dr Laltharli also mentioned the prevailing conditions of the district hospital.
She informed that only 8 doctors and 13 nurses are managing the hospital round the clock.
28 doctors were sanctioned for the hospital.
With the increasing work load, the medical staff members could not discharge their duties satisfactorily.
After the cease work strike was launched, all the recuperating patients were discharged while other who are still in need of further treatment have been referred to hospitals in Imphal.
Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Modak Hrisheekesh called for an emergency meeting at his office chamber today wherein the issues were discussed along with the doctors and staff members of the hospital in the presence of DIO CMO i/c Dr Kapangring, Medical Superintendent Dr Laltharli Hmar, TKS leaders and other village chairmen.
During the meeting, the DC assured to look into the matter and urged the employees to withdraw the strike.
Considering the interest of the people who need medical care, the district hospital employees resolved to withdraw the strike and resume their duties.
