Imphal, September 10 2016:
Higher Themzan Academy emerged the champion of the Araang inter school tournament stealing a narrow 1-0 win over St George School, after a hard fought match today at Bakshi Mini Stadium.
Both teams took to the field wary of each other and did not really open up in the initial stage of the match.
Lemon break was sounded with both teams not really stretching the rival defence line.
However after the breather, both teams played to a plan and started testing each other with some accurate passing and down the flanks.
The slushy ground, thanks to the heavy rain that lashed the district in the last few days was a spoiler but this did not deter the players from stretching their legs.

Both sides tried to dominate the midfield and were equally up to the task and the score board remained blank during normal time.
The match then went into extra time.
Tired after playing a gruelling match for 90 minutes, the players however did not slacken their pace and again went all out to find the net.
Higher Themzan Academy capitalised on a misunderstanding among the players of St George School and the ball went to a well positioned Phungreishan who made no mistake in slotting the ball home in the 102nd minute to seal the match and help his team emerge victorious.
A host of Government officials attended the final as dignitaries with Diphu Gangmei, ADC/ADM of Ukhrul as the guest of honour while Ningreingam Leisan SDO of Kamjong attended as the guest of honour.
The Best Team title went to Ukhrul Public School while the other semi-finalists, namely Shirui High School and St John Bosco were feted during the closing function.
