International Women's Day observed across districts

Bpr/Jiri/Tbl/Kpi/Tml, March 08 2019: As celebrated globally, International Women's Day was observed in Bishnupur District organized by District Administration Bishnupur at Panchayat Resource Centre, inside Mini Secretariat, DC Office Complex, Bishnupur Block Lamkhai today where various programmes and other activities were also presented as part of the observance function.

The function was attended by DC, Bishnupur District, Pawan Yadav (IAS); ADM Bishnupur AS Elias; SDPO Bishnupur Police Th Laxmi Devi; and Social Welfare Officer Bishnupur N Jotish Singh as dignitaries while AC to DC Linda Ningombam; Chairperson Child Welfare Committee Bishnupur P Premchand Singh; and other District Level Officers (DLOs) were also present in the function.

A 'Street Corner Campaign' of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao organized by District Administration and NYK through Childline Bishnupur and District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Bishnupur on the theme 'Balance for Better' was also flagged off from Panchayat Resource Centre by AC to DC Linda and SDPO Laxmi as part of the observance function to raise awareness on the importance of women and also as part of SVEEP multimedia campaign.

Later, DC Bishnupur Pawan Yadav launched official video of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' and showed it to the public.

Cash prizes of Rs 5000 each were also distributed to the five best posers of 'Echanupi & Me Selfie Contest' out of the 27 entries received while consolation prizes have also been distributed to other participants to aknowledge their participation.

In addition to it, winners of 'Singju Suba Competition' were also feted with modest prizes while 20 frontline workers from Anganwadi and Asha workers of the district were also honoured with simple gifts.

26 female employees from different department of the district (two nominated female employees from each Department) were presented humble gifts and recognition certificates by the District Administration as a mark of honour for their sincere work.

Speaking at the occasion, DC Bishnupur Pawan Yadav said that the day was observed to acknowledge all kinds of positive role and contribution made by the women of the State.

He further said that in this age of women empowerment and liberated life enjoyed by the women around the world, there is no place for discrimination based on gender in the society.

Jiribam: All Jiribam Women Association (AJWA) and All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Jiribam Branch have jointly organised International Women's Day on the theme "Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change" at the auditorium hall of Jiribam Municipal Utility Complex today.

The event was graced by S Shanti Devi, Chairperson, Jiribam Municipal Council as the chief guest while Ch Manglembi Devi, president AJWA and Th Suchitra Devi, president AMAWOVA, Jiribam branch also attended the event as the presidium members.

The observation commenced with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by the chief guest.

Later, the VIPs and the resource persons of the event were honoured with a simple gift.

M Tombiton Devi, Gen Secy AJWA, while delivering the key note address deliberated on importance of observing 'International Women's Day' and said that the day was observed around the world to honour and respect the role and contribution of women.

She continued that the society will prosper only when its women are liberated from the clutch of societal backwardness and start enjoying equal rights.

Resource person Dr H Joykumar Singh, Asst Prof Jiri College and RK (O) Amita Devi, Councilor, Child Welfare Ashram also spoke in the function.

Leaders of various CSOs of Jiribam and students also took part in the observance function.

Thoubal: The International Women's Day was also observed at IRDSO complex, Wangjing today.

The observance function was jointly organized by Women in Governance (WinG) Thoubal in association with Integrated Rural Development Service Organisation (IRDSO), Wangjing and Ningol Club, Heirok and in collaboration with District Administration Thoubal.

The day which was observed on the theme 'Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovative For Change' was attended by councillor, Thoubal Municipal Council, ward no10, Hijam Jamuna Devi; Judge, Family Court Thoubal, Salam Imocha Singh; and SDC, Headquarter DC Office Thoubal, Mayengbam Ranjeeta Devi as presidium members while Principal Thoubal College, O Chaoba Devi attended the function as resource person.

As part of the function, BBBP campaign was alsolaunched by DC H Rosita at IRDSO Complex.

Kangpokpi: For the first time, International Women's Day was celebrated widely in Kangpokpi District this year, honoring the achievement of women across the district who has, time and again, boosted the way of life with the theme "Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change".

The landmark celebration of International Women's Day was successfully organized by ICDS Cell Kangpokpi while human chain rally jointly organized by ICDS Cell Kangpokpi and District Administration Kangpokpi in connection with the celebration was participated by more than 400 women including grandmother, mother, daughter, teachers, students, ASHAs workers and ICDS workers.

The human chain rally was flagged off by Lalithambigai K (IAS) DC Kangpokpi from M Thomas Ground and culminated at DC Kangpokpi office complex via NH-2 and DC Road and was followed by a remarkable celebration programme at Multi-purpose Hall, DC Office Kangpokpi.

Among the meritorious women in the district, Meghalaya Board of Secondary School topper in Commerce stream, Chongdeinem Guite of Kangpokpi DHQs; First Class MSc (Agri) under Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Lhingneivah Chongloi; Manipur state topper in MIL Thadou subject under COHSEM, Janghoiching Olivia Hangshing; CBSE Class XII rank holder T Lhingminchong Haokip; CBSE Class X first divisioners Lamkhanthem Haokip; MA (Philosophy) under MU rank holder T Lhinghoikim Touthang; BOSEM 2018 1st divisioners Nemneilam Joycy Touthang apart from Hoichong Chongloi, champion of Women's Single Manipur Badminton; Tingmila Doungel, Khelo India 2019 silver medalist and Hathoikim Chongloi, Women's Taekwondo gold medalist in sports category were impressively awarded during the function.

Recognition and felicitation of women's topper in education sector and sports women of the district, tele play under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, cultural dance and songs presented by various communities marked the celebration.

Lalithambigai K, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi, Lunseh Kipgen, Chairman, Kangpokpi Town Committee, Hemant Pandey, IPS, SP Kangpokpi, Lalramsang Infimates, MCS, Addl DC Kangpokpi and Chunglenmang Kipgen, MCS, SDO T Waichong and Champhai Sub Division attended the celebration as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour.

Tamenglong: United Women Organisation Tamenglong (UWOT) in collaboration with Indigenous Women and Children Foundation (IWCF) observed 'International Women Day' under the theme 'Balance for Better' at Indoor Stadium, Tamenglong DHQ.

The function was graced by SDO Tamenglong, Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei as chief guest; Asst Prof Tamenglong College, Rose Gonmei; and Chunchamliu Kamei, Advocate as guests of honour; while AI (MES) ZEO Noney, Kalingsuiliu Panmei attended the event as functional president.

The programme was also attended by leaders of various unions including the women societies of various wards.

Speaking at the function, chief guest Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei delved on the past during the time of world war when people used to treat women as less superior and the steps taken to bridge the gap between men and women during Renaissance period.

He also emphasised on the importance of equal treatment without gender bias in the society.

Rose Gonmei, while acknowledging the subsequent growth of women in the current era, said that the programme was conducted to remind the need of protection for women.

Chunchamliu reiterated the saying 'both men and women are equally important to bring development in the society'.

President of UWOT, Aduanliu also spoke on 'how International Women Day' came into being.
