Media workshop on climate change ends

The two-days long State Level Media Workshop on Climate Change Reporting held at Hotel Imphal, North AOC and Sendra, Bishnupur district concluded today.
The workshop was jointly organized by Directorate of Environment, Government of Manipur, Centre for Media Studies, New Delhi and Khelen Thokchom Trust, Manipur with the main objective of exploring the broader aspects of media reporting on climate change.
During the workshop held at Hotel Imphal, eminent journalists from the State, including Editors' Guild, Manipur (EDM) president and Editor of the Sangai Express (Manipuri Edition) Khogendra Khomdram, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMJWU) president and ISTV Editor-in-Chief Brozendro Ningomba, Imphal Free Press Editor Pradip Phanjoubam among others delivered speeches on different topics on climate change.

A joint team of media personnel, including senior journalist A Mobi and Khogendra Khomdram along with officials of Department of Environment, Government of Manipur and members of Khelen Thokchom Trust, Manipur also visited Sendra and Karang village and met villagers to explore the ground realities on the impact of climate change and environmental degradation in the villages and Loktak Lake.
The team also discussed the various impacts of climate change, particularly on the Loktak Lake and villages in the periphery of the lake and as well as the measures that can be taken up to contain it.
They also delved on media's role in dissemination of awareness about the global issue and the effective ways of reporting climate change.
